Key information
Sega launched an official Discord server on October 5 for fans to gather. Shortly after opening, the community experienced massive activity that required sweeping moderator action to handle rule-breaking behavior and wild fanart sharing.
Hours after the launch, moderators restricted chat by locking it behind a members-only role requiring server boosts. Order was later restored, and these chat limitations were mostly lifted by the team.
Aaron Webber, Sega of Japan director of strategy, studio, and community relations, addressed the event on Twitter. He rejected the chaotic framing, noting that having over 30,000 people arrive at once caused normal high activity.
Webber praised the moderation team and mentioned that strict automatic filters and quick bans addressed bad actors. The team is currently fine-tuning the ban system, working to unban wrongly affected users, and planning to ease spam restrictions.
Meanwhile, fans awaiting news on the fourth Sonic film, slated to release on March 19, 2027, can now use the official Discord to discuss the franchise, which reportedly involves Amy Rose and Metal Sonic.
