Key information
Sega launched an official Sonic Discord server on October 5 for fans. The opening hours quickly turned hectic as over 30,000 members arrived simultaneously, leading to rule-breaking behavior and wild fanart sharing.
Due to the initial chaos, moderators temporarily restricted chat capabilities by locking permissions behind a members-only role that required server boosting before restrictions were largely lifted.
Aaron Webber, Sega of Japan community relations director, rejected the description of the event as purely chaotic. He praised the moderation team for handling the massive influx and noted that strict automatic filters and bans swiftly targeted bad actors.
Webber stated that the team is fine-tuning the ban system, working to unban falsely impacted users, and reworking spam restrictions so fans can resume typing in the chat soon.
Meanwhile, fans awaiting the fourth Sonic movie, slated for March 19, 2027, can utilize the official Discord server to discuss the upcoming film featuring Amy Rose and Metal Sonic.
