Key information

The Gundam SEED franchise will expand with a new film, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO, scheduled for release in Japan on January 15, 2027, followed by a North American debut in February. Official materials including a teaser trailer, visual art, and character designs have been unveiled.

Serving as a prequel to the 2024 film SEED FREEDOM, this story focuses on Shinn Asuka. It explores his internal struggles and motivations during the period between the conclusion of SEED DESTINY and the events of FREEDOM. The narrative was originally developed by director Mitsuo Fukuda alongside series composers Chiaki Morosawa and Shigeru Morita.

The plot follows the aftermath of the Destiny Plan's collapse, as the organization Compass is established to maintain peace. In C.E. 74, Shinn finds himself adrift until the theft of the Strike Freedom Gundam forces him back into combat. The film features returning characters like Kira Yamato and Athrun Zala, alongside the film debut of Leonard Valwe, voiced by Daisuke Ono.

Director Mitsuo Fukuda described the project as the final work completed by his late wife, Chiaki Morosawa. He expressed gratitude to fans for their support, noting that he once believed the story might never be produced. Voice actors Kenichi Suzumura, Soichiro Hoshi, and Akira Ishida highlighted that the film aims to bridge narrative gaps for viewers curious about the events connecting the previous installments.
