Key information

Unreleased gameplay footage from the cancelled Perfect Dark project has surfaced online, offering a glimpse at development material that was never shown publicly prior to its cancellation. The leaked video compiles roughly two minutes of work-in-progress footage originating from a visual effects artist.

The footage highlights first-person action mechanics, showcasing weapon combat, unique locations, a hacking sequence, and an escape sequence featuring protagonist Joanna Dark. Additionally, the project incorporated espionage, stealth, and mobility elements within a near-future sci-fi setting.

The reboot was originally announced in 2020 as the inaugural project for Microsoft's Santa Monica studio The Initiative, with Crystal Dynamics later joining as a co-development partner. Production suffered from internal challenges, developer departures, and studio restructuring before Microsoft officially cancelled the game in 2025.

Although Microsoft previously revealed a gameplay trailer during 2024, the title was ultimately shelved alongside other projects. Since its termination, various concept arts and unreleased gameplay details have gradually emerged online.
