Key information
Recent reports suggest Nvidia may be planning to release a 24 GB version of the RTX 5080 in early 2027. According to Benchlife, add-in board partners have been verbally informed that product development data for this card is expected soon, potentially replacing the existing 16 GB model.
The proposed card would utilize the GB203 chip already found in the current RTX 5080. Because this chip is already fully utilized, the new model is not expected to feature higher core counts or deliver significant gaming performance improvements over the current iteration.
The primary advantage of the 24 GB configuration is its utility for local AI models. This version is positioned as an alternative for users who would have previously purchased an RTX 5090, as supplies of the GB202 chip are reportedly being redirected toward professional RTX Pro cards.
These details remain unconfirmed rumors, and industry observers note that the status of RTX 50-series refreshes has been inconsistent. While a launch could occur around CES 2027, there is no official guarantee, and the potential discontinuation of top-tier gaming cards may leave the RTX 5070 Ti as the primary high-end option.
