Key information
UnReal World, a pioneering open-world survival roguelike set in Iron Age Finland, is set to receive a significant update this month. Despite debuting in 1992, the title continues to receive active development 34 years later, maintaining a Guinness World Record for its longevity.
The upcoming update, titled The Survivor's New Clothes, focuses on a comprehensive overhaul of the game's clothing crafting mechanics. Players will be able to utilize various materials such as linen, hemp, and nettle to create garments, with the final quality determined by the character's skill level and the resources utilized.
Creator Sami Maaranen notes that the system is designed with extreme detail, meaning crafting is not an immediate process. Complex items may require several days of in-game time to complete, and even simple tasks like making socks can take multiple nights. To accommodate this, the update introduces the ability to pause and resume work, alongside an updated in-game encyclopedia.
While the update is scheduled for release in October, the developers have not yet specified an exact launch date. Maaranen continues to support the project, noting that new development ideas consistently emerge upon the completion of existing features.
