Key information

Riot Games has announced that League of Legends Classic will conclude its current run at the start of 2027, coinciding with the Season 3 finale. The developer noted that most players have returned to modern versions of the game, prompting a shift in strategy for the throwback mode.

The project initially aimed for a selective character roster, but Game Designer David 'Phreak' Turley confirmed a pivot toward rapid expansion. Despite this accelerated pace, the mode struggled to maintain the appeal found in other classic-style revivals, with reviewer Cecilia noting that while it sparked nostalgia, it also highlighted why players originally moved on from earlier iterations.

Upcoming updates include the addition of Mordekaiser, Yorick, Hecarim, and Lucian in patch 26.21 on Wednesday October 21. Future patches will introduce Volibear, Urgot, and Udyr, while regions with high player migration will see the implementation of windowed queues.

Following the conclusion in January 2027, Riot plans to transition the mode into an event-based format with future adjustments. The studio is offering refunds for unusable paid content, and the upcoming Act 2 battle pass will feature only a free track. Riot intends to share further insights regarding the project's successes and limitations.
