At the OSAKA INDIE GAMES SUMMIT 2026, held on October 3 and 4, 2026, JamnotesGames showcased their upcoming title, Kageki Otome Canon. The game follows a magical girl named Canon who uses music and magic to save a collapsing world, featuring a narrative style reminiscent of 1990s television anime.
The developer, formerly of Grasshopper Manufacture, cites the classic title Rez as the project's primary inspiration. The core gameplay revolves around a unique music engine where shooting enemies adds guitar or piano phrases to the background track. Actions like locking onto targets and firing are synchronized with the music, creating a highly satisfying rhythmic experience.
Mechanically, players manage a Magic Point (MP) gauge to utilize lock-on beams, shields, and charged shots. While lock-on beams consume MP, the resource regenerates automatically over time. Players can also accumulate charge gauges to defeat multiple enemies simultaneously. Collecting experience points dropped by defeated foes provides a rewarding, high-intensity feedback loop similar to bullet heaven games.
The current build features rock-style music that emphasizes a sense of speed. The developer intends to expand the game's musical variety in the future, incorporating a broader range of genres to enhance the overall experience.
