Key information
The classic platformer series Dizzy is returning with a new installment announced by its original creators, the Oliver Twins, during a talk at the Play Expo in Blackpool. Andrew Oliver revealed the new project, which serves primarily as a remake combining elements of the ZX Spectrum and NES versions of 1989's Treasure Island Dizzy, alongside a new Mega Drive version and an Ultra version featuring modern visuals.
According to the report, the developers utilized generative artificial intelligence to handle the artwork and development process. Phillip Oliver defended the technology by stating that creating the art traditionally for Journey to the Emerald City would have required over a year, multiple artists, and a significant financial cost of a hundred thousand pounds.
The creators described themselves as humble developers. Andrew Oliver noted a supporter's comment suggesting that generative tools allow independent creators to compete with the production quality and visuals of heavily financed massive studios.
