Key information
Capcom is preparing a new story downloadable content for Resident Evil Requiem, which is recognized as one of the biggest hits this year. Although the release window and specific plot details remain unannounced, writer Haris Orkin shared a teaser regarding the upcoming content.
During an appearance on the Distance Nerding podcast, Orkin discussed writing villains and indicated that the downloadable content will expand upon the character arc of Oswell E. Spencer. The writer remarked that players will understand Spencer even further in the upcoming expansion.
In Resident Evil Requiem, Spencer is portrayed more sympathetically than in past series entries, expressing genuine regret for creating the Umbrella Corporation, researching the Progenitor Virus, and trying to remake the world through bioweapons. The narrative reveals that Spencer adopted a baby girl named Grace in 2001 and developed the Elpis antiviral to eliminate Progenitor-based weapons as atonement.
This portrayal contrasts with his depiction in Resident Evil 5 before Albert Wesker killed him in 2006, where he retained delusions of grandeur and pursued immortality. While Capcom has been actively altering lore through its remakes, the exact release date and plot specifics for the downloadable content are still unknown.
