Micron chief executive Sanjay Mehrotra revealed that the ongoing memory crisis causing massive spikes in RAM costs will persist for years. Micron joins Samsung and SK Hynix as one of three major corporations facing a US lawsuit that accuses the trio of price fixing.
According to an earnings call covering financial results, Mehrotra stated that Micron has already booked sales for the majority of the memory production slated for next year. Consumers purchasing hardware next year will encounter significantly elevated prices compared to current rates.
Mehrotra explained that industry demand will outstrip supply throughout calendar 2027 and 2028, with market conditions growing progressively tighter than in 2026. The executive noted that leadership lacks visibility regarding when supply and demand might finally achieve equilibrium.
While corporations profit from supplying artificial intelligence datacentres, consumer hardware production suffers constriction due to shifted priorities. Furthermore, none of the three dominant memory manufacturers have reversed course to address unserved consumer demand, a central allegation in the ongoing US price-fixing litigation.
