Sony Interactive Entertainment has unveiled a new holiday strategy for the Japanese market, introducing the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Midnight Black. This specific model is exclusive to the region and will be available for the equivalent of 310€.
The console is scheduled to launch on November 19. This pricing strategy positions the hardware as a more affordable option compared to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 bundles, which are priced at the equivalent of 359€.
For users who prefer physical media, Sony will offer a matching disc drive for the equivalent of 68€. Purchasing this accessory alongside the console brings the total cost to 378€.
Despite the availability of a disc drive, Sony has noted that the physical format for new game releases will be discontinued in January 2028. This limitation applies to all titles launched after that date.
