Key information

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced the introduction of a new AI image enhancement technology called QSSR for standard PlayStation 5 consoles, allowing players to experience clearer and more stable graphics without needing to upgrade their hardware.

Derived from the PSSR technology featured on the PS5 Pro, QSSR is a result of the Project Amethyst collaboration between Sony and AMD, functioning essentially as a lightweight version of AI image enhancement tailored for the base PS5.

The technology aims to reduce resolution-related blurriness in characters, distant scenery, streets, and complex environments while minimizing visual flickering and instability during movement.

Insomniac Games' Marvel's Wolverine and Sucker Punch Productions' Ghost of Yōtei will be the first titles to support QSSR via updates, with developers noting improvements to complex urban environments, character details, and fine visual elements.

Sony plans to make QSSR available to other PlayStation development teams in the future, with more PS5 games expected to add support for the technology over time.
