Key information

Electronic Arts producer Jim Vessella officially announced a remaster of the 1994 classic Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger. The reveal took place during a presentation at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, as documented by former EA employee Steve Lin on October 11, 2026.

The project will feature the Kilrathi Saga, which includes remastered versions of the first two entries in the series. A key technical improvement involves restoring the original live-action FMV sequences from the source tapes, which are being upscaled for modern displays. Furthermore, the game will support controller input and offer performance up to 60 frames per second, incorporating efforts from the community.

This announcement follows the recent trailer release for Squadron 42, which is directed by Chris Roberts, the original creator of Wing Commander III. Both projects feature Hollywood actors Mark Hamill and John Rhys-Davies, who provided performances for the 1994 title and are involved in the motion capture for the upcoming Squadron 42.

The remaster will be available on Steam, GOG, and the EA App. This initiative signals a shift in strategy for Electronic Arts, which has recently focused on live-service titles. The company aims to leverage its historical catalog, building on the success of previous projects like the Command & Conquer Remastered collection and Mass Effect: Legendary Edition.
