Key information

Two new Pokemon-themed hotel rooms primarily featuring the first-generation dragon Pokemon Dragonite are scheduled to open in late 2026. The special suites will debut at the Grandia Housen hotel located in the city of Awara within Japan’s Fukui Prefecture.

Dragonite was chosen for the rooms because it serves as the official Ambassadorial Pokemon of the Fukui Prefecture. In addition to Dragonite, the accommodations will showcase decorations depicting its pre-evolved forms, Dratini and Dragonair.

Each suite combines Japanese and Western-styled areas measuring 12.5 and 10 tatami mats, roughly 218 and 174.4 sq ft respectively. The layout includes a bedroom with two large beds, a living room, a Japanese room, a restroom, and a bathroom equipped with both a shower and a bathtub.

Grandia Housen joins a growing group of properties offering themed rooms, following past collaborations at locations such as the Grand Hyatt Tokyo and Mimaru Apartment Hotels in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, as well as Indonesia’s Hotel Nikko Bali Benoa Beach in 2024. The Dragonite rooms at Grandia Housen will officially become available on November 12, 2026.
