Key information
A recent report by Tom Warren of The Verge claimed that Xbox might secure exclusive streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto VI. According to the report, which stemmed from a Microsoft internal meeting held on Tuesday, October 6, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma allegedly informed employees about an unprecedented arrangement for the game's launch.
The initial reports suggested that the game could be played on PC via Xbox Cloud Gaming starting on its November 19 release date, potentially serving as the only way to play the title without a traditional console at launch. However, neither the financial terms nor the duration of this supposed exclusivity had been detailed.
Roughly four hours later, Matthew Ball, Chief Strategy Officer at Xbox, publicly refuted the report on X. Ball stated that despite the excitement, the claims were misreporting, clarifying that the game will not be streamed exclusively or to PC. Following the denial, Warren issued a revised article acknowledging that the agreement is not exclusive and that GTA 6 will not be playable via streaming on PC.
Consequently, Grand Theft Auto VI remains scheduled for release on November 19 on Xbox Series X/S and PS5, with no native or streaming version planned for PC.
