Key information
Ghost Town Games, the developer behind the Overcooked series, has announced its next project titled Stage Fright. Published by Hello Games, this two-player cooperative puzzle adventure is scheduled for release in early 2027 on Steam and Nintendo Switch.
While Overcooked gained a reputation for creating tension between players, co-director Oliver De-Vine describes Stage Fright as a constructive effort to foster community. The developers aim to prioritize verbal communication over controller dexterity, designing the experience to bring partners together rather than causing frustration.
The gameplay involves two players guiding children through a mystery-filled adventure. Mechanics focus on physical item management rather than inventory systems, ensuring all puzzle-solving remains a verbal, shared experience. De-Vine characterizes the progression as a linear structure, humorously comparing the atmosphere to a family-friendly version of Silent Hill.
To replicate the intimacy of local play, the developers are implementing online splitscreen functionality. This design choice allows remote players to see the same environment, facilitating the constant communication required to navigate puzzles and avoid threats effectively.
