Key information
Ubisoft chief executive Yves Guillemot addressed an investor regarding the future of the Watch Dogs franchise. Game File reported that the executive described the intellectual property as an important brand for the future, though no current projects are actively in development.
The original title debuted in 2014 as a rival to Grand Theft Auto 5, followed by a sequel in San Francisco. A third entry, Watch Dogs: Legion, introduced the feature to control any non-player character upon release in 2020, but faced mixed fan reception.
Stephen Totilo noted that Guillemot's remarks imply the company might still be evaluating the direction of the property. Speculation suggests the publisher may be considering how to position the series relative to upcoming genre competitors like Grand Theft Auto 6.
Additionally, a film adaptation finished production and underwent reshoots, though it currently lacks any official release date or significant promotional rollout. Fans should not anticipate any new interactive entries from the series for several years.
