Key information

NVIDIA has unveiled a major optimization for its DLSS 5 artificial intelligence rendering and upscaling technology. According to the company, this update significantly boosts performance, making the current iteration ten times faster than the version demonstrated in March.

The updated model is twice as fast as the version released in September while maintaining identical visual quality. Technical improvements include a 24% reduction in model size, equating to approximately 118 million parameters, and a 20% decrease in VRAM consumption at 4K resolutions.

Despite these advancements, the technology has faced criticism regarding its impact on original artistic direction. Furthermore, NVIDIA acknowledged that the initial September launch on GeForce RTX 50 series hardware still resulted in a performance reduction of 50% to 60%.

The optimized DLSS 5 model debuts in NBA 2K27 on October 16 for GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs, RTX Spark laptops, and GeForce NOW, with frame rates expected to increase by up to 1.4 times. Hogwarts Legacy will receive support on November 5.
