Key information
Dwango announced on October 13 that the Niconico application for the Nintendo Switch will officially terminate its service on March 31, 2027. Furthermore, the company confirmed that new downloads of the software from the Nintendo eShop will be discontinued starting February 28, 2027.
The application currently allows users to watch videos from the Niconico platform directly on the console, featuring support for scrolling comments and playlist management. While the Switch version is ending, Dwango clarified that users can continue accessing the service through the browser-based version or the dedicated Niconico mobile application.
Regarding future hardware, the company explicitly stated that there are no plans to develop or release a version of the Niconico software for the Nintendo Switch 2.
To mark the conclusion of the service, Dwango is launching the "Thank You for Playing So Much" campaign. This initiative will provide eligible users with personalized records, such as their first day of viewing and total days spent watching videos, alongside a special achievement badge to commemorate their usage of the application.
