Key information

The latest Rust update brings farming to the survival game, allowing players to raise cows and sheep inside enclosed pens built with new fences and gates. Sheep yield wool and mutton, while cows provide milk and beef, along with dung. Milk can be processed into skimmed milk or cream to boost tea effects. Fully grown animals can be traded at ranches for randomized resource offers.

Spoiled food finally gains a purpose through a new biofuel generator that converts organic matter into low-grade fuel with manual stirring. Additionally, multiple small creatures like frogs, rabbits, and sea turtles have been added as mostly set dressing, while Facepunch implemented smart NPC processing to protect game performance.

Facepunch altered the post-wipe vehicle race by making the Air Wolf helipad broken at wipe, requiring a communal repair process to delay early vehicle usage. Furthermore, new locked loot rooms requiring heavy fuses now appear across many monuments, and explosives received client prediction for smoother handling on high-ping servers.

The update is available now. Technical enhancements include moving from Unity's default render pipeline to a custom one built by the graphics team, offering immediate slight performance gains and an option to toggle back this month. Meanwhile, a mandatory Halloween update arrives on Thursday October 22.
