Key information
NBA 2K25 is scheduled to be pulled from digital stores after a lifespan of just two years, according to recent announcements. Publisher 2K will remove the sports title from purchase starting on October 30, 2026. Following the storefront removal, online servers will officially shut down on January 1, 2027.
The upcoming server closure directly impacts core features, rendering the single-player story mode MyCareer and MyTEAM completely unplayable. Because player progression and virtual currency depend on an active connection to 2K servers, these modes rely entirely on online infrastructure. Earning Virtual Currency will also become impossible.
Despite the discontinuation of online functionality, users who buy the game prior to October 30 can still access offline features. According to the publisher statement, modes like Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA will remain functional without server connectivity, though community sharing and online leagues will disappear.
This practice of quickly retiring recent franchise entries forces users toward newer annual releases while erasing legacy content. Previous game removals already eliminated standalone modes like All-Star Team-Up, leaving past in-game progress with a strict expiration date, though strong franchise sales continue regardless.
