Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to release later this month, bringing a fully realized and expanded version of the DMZ extraction mode originally introduced as a beta during the 2022 release of Modern Warfare 2. The updated mode benefits from four years of polish, aiming to deliver a much bigger experience with numerous new features.

According to an official Call of Duty blog post, narrative and quests will be driven by DMZ Orders on the new map called Hajin. These orders are designed to introduce core gameplay systems, direct players across the exclusion zone, and offer rewards for completing specific objectives.

Beyond standard tasks, the mode features dynamic and side operations. In a virtual briefing earlier to Polygon, developers showcased an objective requiring players to enter a bank vault to rescue a VIP and escort them out safely. The map also populates high-ranking bosses, categorized as lieutenants and commanders, offering valuable loot, XP, and cash, though commanders present severe resistance requiring tactical knowledge or cooperative play.

Additional mechanics include the Forward Operating Base, which serves as a command center featuring utility stations like a bounty leaderboard to track successful PvP players and a boss board to purchase intel on commanders and lieutenants.
