A Reddit user named fantasticauthor2736 has developed a mod that transforms Diablo 2 Resurrected into a first-person virtual reality experience. Videos of the project showcase the gameplay in the opening zones, where a motion controller is used to point and fire spells at enemies.
The VR adaptation builds upon an existing 3D conversion mod called D2R-3D created by emmericp, alongside FlatVR and BodyWalk. Because Diablo 2 Resurrected renders in 3D internally, the foundation allows for robust camera control, though emmericp notes that rendering from this new perspective requires altering projectile calculations, lighting, and shadow effects.
The project also features a redesigned user interface, moving the inventory to the belt, placing health, mana, and the toolbar on the left wrist, and rendering the map as a handheld orb. However, players will likely face severe restrictions upon release, as the underlying modifications trigger Blizzard's file integrity checker and cause the online-required game to crash after approximately one minute without using potentially unsafe workarounds.
