Key information
Microsoft is currently working on a complete reconstruction of the Xbox application for PC. This initiative aims to address long-standing user complaints and improve the platform's functionality, with a potential global release aligned with the 2027 launch of Project Helix.
Early reports from Jez Corden of Windows Central and Tom Warren of The Verge indicate that the redesigned application offers significantly faster performance, particularly when loading large libraries. While specific load time metrics are currently unavailable, initial impressions suggest a marked improvement over the existing software.
The update introduces a unified interface that merges library and store pages for individual titles. Furthermore, the app will feature improved clarity regarding installation options and Xbox Cloud Gaming availability, alongside an interface that dynamically adjusts based on whether users employ a mouse and keyboard or a controller.
While the app is expected to reach Xbox Insiders later this year, it remains in a preliminary state. Although usability and performance are prioritized, reviewers note that the current build still lacks robust community tools and prominent user review features.
