Key information
Wizards of the Coast has unveiled its third Marvel collaboration for Magic: The Gathering, titled Darkhold Destiny. Unlike previous crossovers, this set features an original in-house narrative where characters like Doctor Strange and the Asgardians defend the multiverse against Dormammu and Hela.
The set emphasizes spellcasting through three distinct schools: Arcane, Divine, and Dark. Mechanically, Wizards is reintroducing the Arcane subtype for instants and sorceries, a feature absent since 2005. However, the developer confirmed that the Splice Onto Arcane ability will not return.
Artistically, the set allows for unique interpretations of Marvel characters, blending them into the Magic aesthetic. For example, Scarlet Witch retains signature elements like her mask while adopting a distinct MTG-inspired appearance.
Product offerings include standard boosters, bundles, and four Commander decks, such as the White/Blue/Black Strange Academy and White/Red/Green Gods of Asgard. Collector's editions, scene boxes, and unique promo cards are also planned. The narrative will be introduced via an Image Comics collaboration in February, preceding the full set launch in April 2027.
