Key information
Netflix is set to expand its streaming catalog with the premiere of a new thriller series titled Below, localized in Spanish as Bajo la superficie, launching on October 8. Described as featuring horror in the style of Stephen King, the production is directed at fans of atmospheric and chilling storytelling.
The plot shifts the action to a small town in Newfoundland, centering on a seasoned fisherman portrayed by Josh Hartnett. The protagonist struggles to move forward while dealing with childhood memories tied to the tragic death of his father, who allegedly perished at the hands of a terrifying marine creature.
As the mysterious creature continues to terrorize local residents, the fisherman and his son, played by Charlie Heaton, take action to protect the community. They are joined by a marine biologist, played by Mackenzie Davis, who attempts to uncover the dark secrets lurking in the ocean depths.
To achieve heightened realism, the cast traveled to Newfoundland to understand the local culture, with Hartnett talking to residents and listening to regional radio daily to master the accent. Furthermore, the creators avoided green screens, filming actual scenes in the ocean of Newfoundland.
Viewers can watch the entire narrative immediately without waiting for future seasons, as the release is structured as a complete miniseries consisting of six episodes available simultaneously.
