Key information

Founder Sara Tashakorinia has introduced LumenUs, a new platform designed to assist grieving families by automating the extensive administrative paperwork that follows the death of a loved one. Tashakorinia, who experienced the burden of managing roughly 570 hours of documentation after her husband's death, created the service to handle logistical challenges like filing insurance claims and closing bank accounts.

The platform utilizes artificial intelligence to streamline these processes. Upon onboarding, users provide specific details regarding their financial and legal situation. LumenUs then categorizes necessary tasks by urgency, helping users identify immediate requirements and potentially unclaimed life insurance benefits that often go ignored due to a lack of information.

Tashakorinia is developing the platform with co-founders Sajad Mirzaei and Larry Keeley. Given the sensitive nature of the financial and personal data involved, the team is leveraging Tashakorinia's background in cybersecurity while consulting with social workers and clinicians to ensure the product is handled appropriately during testing.

LumenUs is currently a participant in the Startup Battlefield 200 at TechCrunch Disrupt, which occurs October 13-15 in San Francisco. The startup is scheduled to launch in early access this October, with future plans to expand support beyond the immediate aftermath of a death to assist with the lifelong grieving process.
