Key information
Akio Otsuka, the Japanese voice and motion capture actor for Solid Snake, expressed a strong desire for Konami to produce a new entry in the Metal Gear series. However, Otsuka remains conflicted about participating in a fresh installment if series creator Hideo Kojima is not involved.
Reflecting on his past statements, Otsuka noted that he previously declared he would not want to do a Metal Gear game without Kojima. Given the far from amicable split between Konami and Kojima, a return by the director is considered unlikely. During an interview with Bunshun, Otsuka also touched upon his deep bond with Kojima, recalling how he burst into tears upon the release and completion of Death Stranding after fearing the director could have faced insurmountable debts.
Otsuka additionally recalled memories from his time voicing Snake, including that the famous line 'Kept you waiting, huh?' was an adlib during Japanese recording, and shared a surreal moment when his late father, Chikao Otsuka, voiced Big Boss in MGS4's finale while Otsuka performed motion capture.
While Konami continues the franchise, such as last year's Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater which reused Otsuka's original 2006 performance, the actor feels caught in the middle for the fans. Nevertheless, Otsuka previously emphasized support for the remaining MGS staff who stayed at Konami and inherited Kojima's legacy to protect Metal Gear.
