Key information

Akio Otsuka, the Japanese voice and motion capture actor for Solid Snake, has expressed a keen desire for Konami to develop a new Metal Gear game. However, Otsuka remains conflicted about participating in a fresh entry without the involvement of series creator Hideo Kojima, previously stating that he would not want to do a Metal Gear that lacks Kojima's participation.

Reflecting on the fallout between Konami and Kojima, Otsuka noted that it seems unlikely the director will helm another game in the series. During the interview, Otsuka also recalled fond memories from past recordings, including an adlibbed line by Snake and sharing a surreal set experience in Metal Gear Solid 4 with his late father, Chikao Otsuka, who voiced Big Boss.

Otsuka expressed deep empathy for Kojima regarding the difficulties he faced after leaving Konami to complete Death Stranding. Additionally, Otsuka has defended former Kojima team members who chose to remain at Konami to protect the franchise's legacy, while acknowledging his own position in the middle as the definitive Japanese voice of Snake.

While Konami continues its involvement with the stealth series—such as reusing Otsuka's original 2006 performance for Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater—it remains to be seen if an all-new entry will happen and whether Otsuka would be open to working on it beyond remakes and remasters.
