Key information
Warhorse Studios co-founder Martin Klima recently expressed that he is bored and tired of conventional role-playing games that rely on repetitive power fantasy tropes. During an interview with PC Gamer, the Kingdom Come: Deliverance developer explained his distaste for titles that cast the player as a chosen hero with the grand task of saving the universe.
Klima noted that while such themes appeal to 16- or 17-year-olds who need that type of experience, the gaming audience is much older today. He believes that a significant portion of players are equally tired of this formula and want something new, attributing the persistent repetition to major publishers recycling strategies that have worked in the past.
Highlighting Ubisoft as a specific example, Klima praised the publisher for excellent craftsmanship, bug-free releases, animations, and character models. However, he argued that playing the same game for the 10th time becomes stale, wishing that such high craftsmanship was applied to more innovative ideas.
