Warhorse Studios co-founder Martin Klima hopes that upcoming title GTA 6 will increase game pricing standards. In an interview with PC Gamer, the developer behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 stated that higher pricing is necessary for industry survival.
Klima noted that development costs have surged while the core buying audience has peaked. Because digital storefront storefronts effectively eliminate traditional retail profits, studios struggle to maximize cash flow without relying on microtransactions.
According to the studio boss, raising unit prices is the remaining option to support creators, but companies fear doing so independently. Klima believes Rockstar Games and Take-Two have the influence to successfully establish a new pricing standard.
Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on 19 November. In the US, the Standard Edition is priced at $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition reaches $99.99, though player acceptance of higher costs remains uncertain.
