Key information
Voca AWP player Paytyn "junior" Johnson stated that North America does not lack raw AWP talent, but rather high-level in-game leaders (IGLs) necessary to drive those players forward. Speaking with Dust2.us editor-in-chief Jeffrey "Mnmzzz" following Voca's 2-0 victory over BESTIA at iBUYPOWER Masters FML 2026, junior explained that promising AWP players in NA are often restricted due to a lack of strong IGL systems around them.
Voca has participated in few LAN events this season while pursuing VRS points, including results from the South American scene. Junior highlighted Shakezullah's importance to his own development and JT's influence on rival oSee as examples of what strong IGL support can achieve, adding that he and oSee have served as each other's benchmark for seven years. Voca ultimately suffered a 0-2 defeat against M80 in a crucial group-stage match.
The interview was published on September 26, 2026. Junior connected his own path as one of NA's few homegrown AWP stars with the broader regional issue, a topic tied to tactical system gaps highlighted on major stages like Team Spirit's victory at the Esports World Cup.
