At BGS 2026, Nintendo showcased a massive 1000m² booth featuring titles for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Romina Whitlock, Nintendo of America’s marketing director for Latin America, emphasized that the company prioritizes these events to allow fans to test games firsthand, noting that the brand faces challenges in the local physical retail market.
The booth highlights include the return of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to Nintendo consoles after 12 years. Whitlock explained that while first-person shooters are not the company's traditional focus, offering diverse genres is essential for their audience. Additionally, the company continues its strategy of localizing major franchises like Mario and Zelda into Portuguese, aiming to expand access for Brazilian players.
Addressing industry concerns regarding the decline of physical media, Whitlock confirmed that Nintendo has no plans to discontinue physical games globally. She stated that the physical ecosystem remains vital in Latin America for collectors and those who trade games. While some titles utilize Game-Key Cards to manage large file sizes, this is a logistical necessity rather than a shift toward digital-only distribution.
Whitlock attributed this traditionalist approach to the company’s 139-year history and its commitment to listening to consumer feedback. By maintaining a presence at events and valuing physical ownership, Nintendo seeks to strengthen its connection with the Brazilian gaming community.
