S-GAME, the developer behind the highly anticipated action RPG Phantom Blade Zero, recently reflected on the project's origins. Over five years ago, the small team, previously focused on mobile titles, sought financial support and publishing backing from PlayStation to scale their ambitious wuxia and dark fantasy project.

During an early meeting, the studio presented a preliminary version of the game to PlayStation executives. The demonstration was so impactful that it prompted Christian Svensson, PlayStation's vice president of strategic initiatives, and Shuhei Yoshida to express immediate astonishment, with Svensson reportedly exclaiming, "Who are you guys? This is impressive!" regarding the footage.

Following this positive reception, S-GAME prepared a three-minute trailer for the 2023 PlayStation Showcase. The studio's expectations were modest, yet the trailer became the second most-viewed video of the event, trailing only Marvel's Spider-Man 2. This success solidified the studio's relationship with the platform holder.

As a result of this ongoing collaboration, Phantom Blade Zero is scheduled to launch as a console exclusive on October 29. While the title will also be available on PC, it remains a significant project for the studio, having evolved from an improvised pitch to a featured title in a State of Play presentation.
