Key information
Jagex has removed a promotional trailer for RuneScape's Dragon Slayer 2 update after players noticed elements that appeared to be generated by artificial intelligence, notably pointing out a sixth finger. The video was created by an external partner that had previously assured Jagex it would not utilize generative AI.
In a statement shared on Reddit by Mod Anvii, Jagex confirmed the removal and noted that the studio is urgently investigating the incident. The developer reaffirmed its stance that it does not use generative AI for its games, artwork, or creative assets, and explicitly stated that it will not knowingly permit its use on its behalf.
This marks the second time in quick succession that generative AI concerns have involved trusted partners, following a similar backlash regarding a RuneScape collaboration with 100 Thieves. Consequently, Jagex plans to immediately overhaul its internal review processes after RuneFest and intends to commission community creators to tell the story of Dragon Slayer 2.
