Key information
Electronic Arts is developing a remaster of the 1994 space combat title Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger—30th anniversary edition. The project was revealed by EA producer Jim Vessella during a presentation at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo.
The remaster features cutscenes restored from 600 original FMV source tapes discovered by Vessella while digitizing EA's video archives. Players will have access to both the original and upscaled versions of these cinematic sequences.
Technical enhancements include support for 60 FPS gameplay and controller integration. Additionally, the package will include Kilrathi Saga integration, which is expected to bundle the first two games in the series along with their respective expansion packs.
The title is slated for release on Steam, GOG, and the EA app. While the project is viewed as an exciting development for a series noted for its cinematic storytelling, it remains unclear if this represents a broader shift in EA's strategy toward reviving older catalog titles.
