Key information

During Gamescom, a hands-off presentation of Rainbow Six Tactics highlighted its environmental destruction features, such as breached walls and blown-up cover. Creative director Elie Benhamou explained that the destruction serves as a creative tool to solve situations by creating physical gaps to fire through and establish lines of sight.

Benhamou stated that this mechanics alters traditional tactical game dynamics where flanking is usually required to bypass cover. Instead of risking movement around a target, players can blast through walls to confront enemies who have barricaded a room, though flanking remains a tactic utilized by both sides.

Every operator in Rainbow Six Tactics can destroy scenery, though it forms the core of specific characters like Ash with her CREM launcher and Sledge with his BOS sledgehammer. Meanwhile, stealth-focused Nøkk must expend more ammunition and get closer to achieve similar environmental impacts.

Currently, no official release date has been announced for Rainbow Six Tactics, leaving observers to await further testing of its bold claims regarding turn-based tactical destruction.
