PlayStation community members are expressing renewed concerns regarding PSN account security following the recent hacking of a prominent user. The individual, known as RealRadec, reported that hackers compromised his account by altering login credentials, including his email address, which effectively locked him out of his digital library.
The recovery of Radec's account was facilitated by Colin Moriarty, a podcaster who previously experienced a similar theft. Radec acknowledged that his account was restored rapidly primarily due to his status and connections within the community, noting that typical users often lack such direct avenues for assistance when dealing with PlayStation support.
Security vulnerabilities reportedly allow hackers to bypass two-factor authentication by providing common personal details to support staff. Investigations by Moriarty and his team suggested that attackers can successfully impersonate owners using transaction dates and basic identification, a process allegedly verified by a trusted associate.
These recurring security issues have sparked anxiety regarding the platform's shift toward a fully digital ecosystem. With Sony planning to cease physical media production by 2028, users fear that persistent account vulnerabilities could lead to the permanent loss of digital games, save data, and trophies.
