Key information
IRON NEST is a first-person dieselpunk simulation where players operate a massive multi-legged tank alone. Set in a fictionalized 1920s Spanish civil war, the game tasks players with executing complex artillery duties, including loading, ballistics calculation, and turret adjustment, based on commands from headquarters.
The game demands strict adherence to manuals, offering no helpful NPCs or on-screen tips. This design creates a high-pressure, immersive environment where players must manually operate every mechanical component. While initially overwhelming, mastering these analog controls provides a deep sense of accomplishment as players transition from novice to efficient artillerymen.
As missions progress, players must optimize their workflow to meet time constraints, such as pre-calculating targets or utilizing both turrets for continuous fire. The game tracks the consequences of these actions through newspaper reports, though it maintains a rigid, unforgiving stance on player error, requiring precise inputs to succeed.
Despite the stoic military atmosphere, players can find moments of respite by interacting with a cat living inside the tank or performing non-essential tasks like brewing coffee. This balance between strict duty and minor acts of rebellion allows players to choose between being a loyal gear in the military machine or a solitary, chaotic occupant.
