Key information
New footage from the cancelled Perfect Dark reboot for Xbox has surfaced online via an MP1st report. The clips, sourced from a visual effects artist's portfolio, showcase a project that was under development by The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics before the studio closed last year.
The leaked material demonstrates gameplay mechanics including parkour movement and advanced environmental destruction. Specifically, the footage highlights weapon testing in both greybox environments and detailed levels, alongside a demonstration of physics-based fruit destruction.
Regarding the project's status, actress Alix Wilton Regan, who voiced Joanna Dark, previously claimed the game was quite advanced, noting she had recorded entire chapters. Bloomberg reported that Take-Two and id Software had explored potential involvement in the project, though no deal was finalized.
The cancellation occurred as part of broader organizational changes at Microsoft, which also saw the closure of Ninja Theory and layoffs at Halo Studios. The Perfect Dark reboot would have been the first entry in the series since 2005's Perfect Dark Zero.
