Developer XD has launched the Tartarus Season for the free-to-play ARPG Torchlight Infinite. This update introduces a core mechanic where players manage a Netherrealm prison, capturing dangerous foes to battle and consume one another. This process culminates in a grand riot, allowing players to earn loot based on the monsters they have cultivated.
The season adds Youga’s third hero trait, The Ultimate One, who utilizes a Clockwork Core to absorb powers from parallel selves. Players can customize Youga into three distinct forms: Spacetime Dictator, which loops spells and delays damage; Spacetime Conqueror, which focuses on mobility and damage spreading; and Spacetime Overlord, which amplifies spells into powerful variants.
The update brings significant gameplay adjustments, including the addition of Tartarus skills via recruitable Followers and a new Star’s Fall mechanic in Supreme Showdown. While the game offers fast-paced action, the author notes that it can feel overwhelming for newcomers. Furthermore, the author cautions that microtransactions may provide tangible advantages at high-end levels, though the game remains enjoyable for free-to-play users.
Additional changes include the integration of the Afterlight mechanic into the core game, an expansion of Divine Ascent to 150 floors, and various quality-of-life improvements to loot filters and trade features. The Tartarus season officially begins on Thursday October 15 on Steam.
