Key information
Rockstar Games has confirmed that social media applications will return in Grand Theft Auto VI, playing a significant role within the game's mobile interface. Players will be able to access platforms like the in-game parody of Instagram and Snapmatic to follow current events in Vice City.
Despite the prominence of these digital platforms, the protagonists Jason and Lucia will not actively post their leisure activities or travels. The developers explained that as wanted criminals, the characters prioritize anonymity to avoid providing law enforcement with clues regarding their location or current appearance.
This design choice integrates with the game's advanced police system, which requires players to frequently alter their clothing, hairstyles, and vehicles following criminal acts. Because witnesses or cameras can trigger police investigations based on descriptions, posting to social media would be counterproductive to the characters' survival.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. While players can browse social media while using the RydeMe ride-sharing service, Rockstar has not announced a PC version for this highly anticipated open-world title.
