Key information
Unions in Spain are planning a general strike for November 11, which falls shortly before the scheduled November 19, 2026 launch of Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto VI on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The planned protests are intended to demand fair wages for affordable housing access.
The situation has caused concern among some players, drawing comparisons to the 2008 release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. At that time, a transport strike in Spain delayed the Konami title's release by five days, forcing many PlayStation 3 users to travel to France to acquire physical copies because digital distribution via the PS Store was unavailable.
Unlike past releases, digital distribution now dominates video game sales. Grand Theft Auto VI will not feature a traditional physical disc, instead offering a download code for those purchasing physical boxes for collecting or promotional pricing, meaning any potential strike disruption to store distribution is expected to be temporary.
