Key information

Rockstar Games has stated that GTA 6 will avoid being too specific about any particular person, event, or movement. According to Rupert Humphries, senior vice president of narrative at Rockstar, previous Grand Theft Auto titles have never truly focused on national politics, with GTA 4 serving as an exception primarily due to post-9/11 New York acting as a frontline for issues surrounding Homeland Security and the Patriot Act.

Humphries explained to Love Magazine that because the studio aims for games to feel specific to their release moment without precisely mirroring the exact real world, avoiding overly specific real-world references prevents the content from becoming dated during long development cycles.

Instead of targeting specific real-world figures, the developers focused on capturing the essence of Florida through research trips, filling the world with characters and culture wars. Players will experience these elements through election signs, campaign robocalls, radio commercials, and political talk shows, utilizing satire to explore themes through original scenarios.

GTA 6 follows dual protagonists Jason and Lucia on a crime spree across the fictionalized Florida setting of Leonida. The game is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles on November 19, 2026, with launch week sales projected to reach up to $5.2 billion.
