Key information

Rob Nelson, development director and co-head of Rockstar North, states that Grand Theft Auto VI will feature an unpredictable and dangerous open world. Unlike previous entries, non-player characters will possess their own initiatives, capable of triggering violent situations independently of player actions.

The game expands on systems introduced in Red Dead Redemption 2, utilizing the dense population of Vice City and the state of Leonida. NPCs will react to player behavior, such as eavesdropping or stalking, with potential aggression. Players can respond to these conflicts through various methods, including threats, non-lethal takedowns, or lethal force.

A new feature called the Criminal Profile system will track habitual criminal behaviors, influencing both world reactions and narrative elements. Nelson emphasizes that the goal is to create a world that acts upon the player, rather than serving merely as a backdrop for chaos.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar Games has not officially announced a version for PC at this time.
