Key information

Rockstar Games is approaching Grand Theft Auto 6 with a narrative strategy that avoids narrow political statements, according to senior vice president of writing Rupert Humphries speaking to Love Magazine.

Humphries explained that because these projects require lengthy development cycles, satirical elements based directly on current events run the risk of feeling outdated upon release.

Instead of mirroring real life closely or targeting specific individuals, movements, or events, the developers focused on capturing the essence of Florida through cultural conflicts and original characters encountered during research trips.

The studio incorporates contemporary issues into the world through alternative narrative devices such as radio talk shows, automated campaign calls, billboards, and commercials rather than direct commentary.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles on November 19.
