Key information

The possibility of Rockstar Games bringing Grand Theft Auto VI to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 remains uncertain. Devon Pritchard, president of Nintendo of America, recently stated in an interview with Variety that any potential announcement regarding the title rests solely with Take-Two and Rockstar, noting she has nothing to share at this time.

While GTA 6 is currently confirmed only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with a scheduled release date of November 19, 2026, speculation persists regarding a Nintendo port. Although some reports suggest the companies held exploratory talks, no official development has been confirmed by either party.

Industry experts express skepticism regarding a potential port. Jérémy Hartvick, a former Rockstar open-world designer, questioned the viability of such an adaptation, citing significant technical hurdles and the target audience's likely preference for platforms where the game is already available, rendering heavy technical compromises unnecessary.

Despite these concerns, the Switch 2 has demonstrated capability with other major multiplatform titles. Take-Two has previously supported Nintendo hardware with games like Sid Meier's Civilization VII and NBA 2K26, while Rockstar has released a version of Red Dead Redemption on the platform, leaving the final decision on GTA 6's future availability to the developers.
