Key information
The standard edition of GTA 6 will cost $80 and is scheduled to arrive on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Ultimate Edition will be priced at $100, while a collector's edition will cost $400 and will not include a copy of the game.
Martin Klima, co-founder of Warhorse Studios, stated in an interview with PC Gamer that an $80 price tag for GTA 6 could allow other developers to charge more for their games. He noted that higher prices would help studios handle rising production costs, though few companies want to risk taking the first step.
Klima believes Rockstar and Take-Two are in a comfortable position to test new pricing tiers due to strong demand for their franchises. Former PlayStation executive Shawn Layden previously noted that budgets now frequently exceed $100 million, unlike past eras when projects cost around $10 million.
Take-Two previously helped transition the industry from $60 to $70 by releasing NBA 2K21 at that price in 2020. Strauss Zelnick stated that Rockstar could have charged even more for GTA 6 before deciding on the $80 standard edition.
