Key information
The Fair Work Ombudsman in Australia has released an infographic addressing employees who might consider taking time off for the release of Rockstar's upcoming title, GTA 6. The guidance explores whether workers can request unpaid leave if they lack available paid leave for the launch date.
According to the Ombudsman, National Employment Standards permit unpaid leave only under specific circumstances, such as caregiving, emergencies, or parental responsibilities. The agency clarifies that playing a video game does not qualify as a valid reason for these specific leave types, suggesting that employees must negotiate directly with their employers for time off.
The government's infographic features humorous illustrations, including a depiction of a game copy in a hospital bed and on an ultrasound screen. These visuals highlight the significant cultural anticipation surrounding the game, which is projected to generate 5,2 billion dollars during its opening week.
Rockstar reportedly invested 1,5 billion dollars in production costs to ensure an authentic Miami atmosphere. GTA 6 is scheduled for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
